Do I get a no-claims bonus on Motability?
Unfortunately, due to the fact the vehicle is owned by Motability Operations Ltd, any accrued no-claims bonus will not be able to be carried forward.
Similarly, if a personal no-claims bonus was held prior to leasing a Motability vehicle, it is likely that this will no longer be accepted as of the time in which the lease with the Motability Scheme is terminated. That said, some insurers do accept a previous no-claims history with them as suffice, although this often tends to have expired after two to three years.
RSA Motability (RSAM) may be able to offer you a letter of no claims however, detailing your time driving a Motability Scheme vehicle, which you could present to your new insurer. In order to request this letter, please contact RSAM.
Am I eligible to join the Motability scheme?
In order to be eligible for the Motability Scheme, you must be in receipt of one of the following allowances and have at least 12 months or more remaining on said allowance when you apply.
• Armed Forces Independence Payment (AFIP)
• War Pensioners’ Mobility Supplement (WPMS)
• Enhanced Rate of the Mobility Component of Personal Independence Payment (PIP)
• Higher Rate Mobility Component of the Disability Living Allowance (DLA)
Can any other allowance be used with Motability?
Other than AFIP, WPMS, PIP, and DLA, unfortunately no other allowances may be used in conjunction with Motability under any circumstances.
Do I own the car at the end of the lease?
At the end of the lease, as the vehicle is owned by Motability Operations, you will be presented with three alternatives. You may either:
• Have your allowance reinstated and return the car
• Extend the lease and keep the current car
• Or, lease another car through the Motability Scheme
