This year, Nissan will unleash a new hot hatch on the market, setting a fresh challenge to the likes of the SEAT Leon, Ford Focus ST and Volkswagen Golf GTI.
The new Nismo will be based on the Pulsar hatchback, and Nissan is rumoured to be lining up two model variations. The opening Nismo S is expected to produce in the region of 247bhp, while an even more energetic Nismo RS will likely produce a magnificent 275bhp, placing it among the leaders in the segment.
Alongside its obvious high-performance, the Pulsar Nismo will have styling to match. An exclusive image of the car has been released by Auto Express, and its shows a bright white finish adorning the chunky body kit. The revised design gives the vehicle a lower stance, and it sits on enlarged alloy wheels which conceal larger performance brakes. A bold rear diffuser includes a twin exhaust set-up, and subtle red detailing stretches around the Nismo's skirt to enhance its appeal.
Clearly, the carmaker has big plans for its latest hot hatch, and is targeting the head of the field when it arrives 12 months after debuting at this year's Paris Motor Show in October.
“The focus is on accessible excitement [with Nismo], but we also need to demonstrate we can go head-to-head with the best in the business." commented Andy Palmer, Nissan's chief planning officer. “Think of us as trying to create a democratised AMG."
