The car is a chameleon in terms of its looks, incorporating elements of a people carrier, SUV and hatchback – and the signature Renault diamond logo brings it all together. The lower door protectors are a touch generally found on more rugged vehicles, and the lightly tinted windows have a more premium feel. You can specify the mirror caps and roof to contrast with the rest of the body, and automatic lights and wipers are standard (if not optional) at all except the entry-level trim.
The Captur has an unusual yet useful keycard entry system, which even more helpfully goes hands-free at higher specifications. A flexible and logically arranged interior awaits you, with a Bluetooth® connection, USB socket for device charging, trip computer and cruise control. A range of Interior Touch Packs will accent the centre console, speakers and air vents in black, grey or chrome. The three-seat bench seat in the back can split and fold down to make more boot space – up to 1,235 litres, in fact. Every seat is ergonomically 'shell-shaped' and surrounded by thoughtful storage options, such as the door pockets and compartments on the top of the dashboard that can hold 1.5-litre bottles.
Engines and fuel economy
The Renault Captur's versatile engine options span from 90bhp to 120bhp, ensuring that it can accelerate to 60mph in no more than 14 seconds. As the majority of engines incorporate fuel-saving eco2 technology, you can expect as much as 76.4mpg combined in economy from the model. That high figure is balanced by a comparatively low one when it comes to CO2 emissions, which are potentially slashed to 95g/km.
One other thing you'd expect from a Renault is a list of protective features – that list has earned the Captur Euro NCAP's top, five-star safety rating. Electronic Stablility Control and ABS are standard systems, joined by front, side and thorax airbags, ISOFIX child seat attachment points, safety locks on the rear doors and height-adjustable front headrests. Renault's Anti Intruder Device also protects the car when its parked as well as you're protected whilst on the move.
