What is the Motability scheme?
The Motability scheme allows you to exchange a mobility allowance to lease a car of your choice. The scheme is designed to help people with a wide range of disabilities to get out and about.
The scheme allows you access to a brand new car that is exactly right for your particular needs or the person you are caring for.
All the running costs are included in the price and we arrange insurance, breakdown and maintenance, so that you can enjoy the freedom of a hassle-free car.
The scheme also offers a wide range of adaptations, from driving controls to accelerators.
Am I eligible for the Motability scheme?
Claimants of the following benefits are eligible, and to qualify for the Scheme you need to have a minimum of 12 months of payments remaining:
- The Higher Rate for Mobility of the Disability Living Allowance (DLA)
- The War Pensioners' Mobility Supplement (WPMS)
- The Enhanced Rate of Mobility on the Personal Independence Payment (PIP)
- The Armed Forces Independence Payment (AFIP)
If you are a parent or legal guardian of a child claiming the Higher Rate for Mobility on DLA, and that child is aged three or over, you can apply for a vehicle to use for their benefit.
Motability Scheme advantages
By making your application through the Scheme, as a disabled road-user you will benefit from a simpler, more affordable and cost-effective method of obtaining a brand-new vehicle. The many different manufacturers we represent and the models they produce mean that you have some of the best choices of Motability Scheme cars when you come to Lookers.
Depending on the type of vehicle you require, it may be available with no Advance Payment to make and at a reduced monthly payment amount that is covered by your eligible benefits. Any adaptations you need to make your chosen vehicle useable or driveable can frequently be completed on site at our servicing centres.
Any new model delivered to you on the Motability Scheme is provided fully insured and with road tax (VED) – as well as cover for future servicing and maintenance, including tyre replacements and repairs to the windscreen. Typically, agreements last for three years, giving you the chance to enjoy a brand-new car more often.
