Alongside the impressive 3.0-litre and 4.2-litre diesel engines that you can choose for the SUV, there's the option of the Touareg Hybrid – a 3.0-litre petrol engine and electric motor combination with a lithium-ion battery. All versions include the automatic tiptronic gearbox, and deliver a reassuringly high combined MPG from the 85-litre fuel tank.

Exterior features

Styled with more compact overhangs at both the front and rear, the Touareg's shape gives it easy manoeuvrability over bumpy terrain and on steep inclines. A bright chrome-edged radiator grille completes the SUV's confident "face", and twin exhaust pipes flank the dynamic rear spoiler. Heat-insulated tinted glass is available as an option, as are non-metallic, metallic and pearl effect bodywork colours and a range of stylish alloy wheels. 

Interior features

Volkswagen has packed the vehicle with technology and safety features, arranging them all to blend in with the comfy design of the cabin. A touch-screen sat nav and an entertainment system nestle within the smart central console, and the model's Bluetooth connection lets the driver make hands-free calls safely. The bench of modular rear seats is unique to the Touareg, with child security locks on the back doors to stop young passengers from trapping their fingers, and everyone can feel reassured by the three-point seatbelts and airbag options for the model.
