T8 Twin Engine
With ultra-low CO2 emissions, the XC90 balances power with responsibility.
The XC90 T8 Twin Engine allows you to drive an average daily commute with zero emissions. This near-silent, electric-only mode, called Pure mode, is enough for the daily commute of most people. In addition, there are two more modes. Switch to Power mode and the turbocharged, supercharged petrol engine and powerful electric motor work together to give you an instant response when you put your foot down. Keep the car in default Hybrid mode and the T8 Twin Engine automatically chooses between the petrol engine, electric motor or a combination of the two, to keep you moving as smoothly and efficiently as possible.
With three rows of seats, the whole family can make themselves at home in the XC90 and long journeys are a breeze. In addition to being exceptionally comfy, the vehicle has very little wind and road noise entering the cabin, even at high speeds. The seven seats can be configured in a staggering 64 different combinations and the second and third row backrests fold flat to open up a volume of 1868 litres. The standard interior details include climate control, front and back power windows, and cruise control, whilst the inbuilt satnav and integrated rear seat screens are extra options.
Volvo is well known for its cutting-edge safety features and high standards, so it is no surprise to learn that the XC90 has a five-star rating from NCAP and boasts airbags galore, anti-whiplash headrests, stability control, and anti-lock brakes. Nifty extra options include the blind spot information system – invaluable for spotting an overtaking motorbike, for example – and power child locks on the rear doors for additional family safety.
The XC90 looks out for potential danger with its innovation City Safety, which uses radar and camera technology to detect potential dangers. such as other vehicles, pedestrians, cyclists and large animals. City Safety will alert the driver and if they do not react in time, will automatically apply the brake to avoid a collision.
The XC90 can also protect against one of the most common types of collision - when a vehicle leaves the road. Run-off road Mitigation can detect if the car is about to leave the road unintentionally between 65-140km/h and can then use steering and, if necessary, brake support to guide the car back onto the right path.
