January 2017 will see Audi unveil its sensational Q8 concept at the North American International Auto Show (NAIAS) in Detroit. The near-production study combines the styling of a coupe with the spaciousness of an SUV, all of which unlocks a new niche for Audi in the large car market.
“With the Audi Q8 concept, we have created a new spearhead within our Q model line. Its design strongly evokes sportiness and prestige. What’s more, we believe an important aspect of this showcar is that it offers a spacious interior with four equally comfortable seats, even with the flat roof line.” explained Marc Lichte, Audi's Head of Design.
An octagonal single-frame grille features on the Q8's imposing front end, which is wider and more pronounced than that in Audi's current production models.
Many of the design features are reminiscent of the Audi Ur-quattro from the 1980s including the extremely flat and very wide C-post, and the prominent, flared wheel arches. These balanced proportions give equal emphasis to the front and rear wheels - a typically quattro feature.
